Leicester loss gives Leeds United hope as fans turn on their players in Premier League

Leicester City failed to take the opportunity to overtake Leeds United as well as Everton, as their fans turned on the players following the Monday night defeat to Liverpool, as reported by Leicestershire Live.

The Foxes fans made their feelings clear at the end of the game with chants of “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” despite an impressive display from Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

The defeat for Dean Smith’s side leaves them staring down the barrel toward relegation as they sit in 19th place with just two games remaining, although they are still just one point behind the Whites.

The temporary boss tried to put across a measured reaction to the backlash, knowing that he can’t afford to alienate the supporters at a critical stage of the campaign.

“We’re all supporters in here. We all support football clubs and you want to see your football club winning”, he said.

“We got beat tonight by a team who physically overran us when they got the two-goal lead. They’re a physically strong team, supreme athletes, and really good players.

“I wouldn’t question our fight today. I wouldn’t question our attitude. If you’re losing 3-0 at home and you’re fighting a relegation battle, I understand why fans will react in certain ways.”

Every little helps

The loss for Leicester was exactly what Leeds and Everton wanted, as no further ground was lost.

Whilst it doesn’t dramatically change the aim for Sam Allardyce and the squad, it certainly doesn’t make the mission more difficult and now the focus can turn to the crunch game at West Ham on Sunday.

The Foxes will have lost morale after the response from their fans and with their last two fixtures coming against Newcastle United and West Ham, the outlook is a bleak one at the King Power Stadium.

Leeds now must look upward, toward getting the better of Everton in the table and the pursuit of Premier League safety, with the next challenge coming at the London Stadium.

With the Hammers going all out to secure a Europa Conference League final place on Thursday evening, Big Sam’s team must be fresh and ready to give everything with David Moyes likely to turn to fringe players once again, on Sunday.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared a situation involving two players which is “confounding everyone”.
