Leicester face battle to convince Jack Harrison to leave Leeds United amid deadline day push

Jack Harrison will take some convincing to leave Leeds United on deadline day amid a late push from Leicester City, according to Tom Collomosse.

The English winger has been a target for Premier League sides, particularly Newcastle, over the past year and still hasn’t signed a new contract, with his current deal expiring in a year and a half.

Collomosse had reported in the Daily Mail on Monday (30 January) that the Whites are now ready to listen to offers for the player, whose form has dipped since the start of the season, after rejecting a £20million deal two days earlier [David Ornstein, 28 January] but doesn’t have confidence that Harrison himself wants the move.

Posting on Twitter Tuesday morning (31 January) the Daily Mail journalist wrote: “Leicester have work to do to convince Jack Harrison to join them.

“Leeds have never dismissed the idea of a sale but Harrison has never been entirely sure about it.”

Doubtful

It wouldn’t make much sense for Leeds United to hold onto Harrison in the face of interest for months and months and then suddenly let him walk on deadline day.

There is potentially some logic in selling Harrison given that his value is reducing all the time without a new deal, which there has been positive noises about for so long but still hasn’t happen, and he is becoming less crucial to the team.

But so far this month it has felt like the club were knocking down their priorities in a logical fashion, signing a defender, then an attacker, and then a midfielder.

Leeds United

Unless the Whites were eyeing up a desperate rush on deadline day to push up Harrison’s value it would be a surprise change of heart to let him go, but it sounds like the player might throw a spanner into those works either way.

Replacing Diego Llorente with Diogo Monteiro late in the window was a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of, so if an attacking replacement is suddenly available at a good price then Harrison could be expendable.

But whether injury-prone Nicolo Zaniolo, who has had moves to various sides in the offing this month, is the right man is open to question.

In other Leeds United news, a deadline day announcement is now expected to complete a surprisingly lucrative Elland Road exit.
