Leicester City star Stephy Mavididi takes brutal swipe at Leeds United and Georginio Rutter
Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi has taken a brutal swipe at Leeds and Georginio Rutter after they claimed the Championship title.
The Foxes overcame a mid-season wobble to be crowned champions and secure an immediate return to the Premier League after Leeds lost 4-0 to QPR on Friday 26 April.
Daniel Farke’s side now look destined for the playoffs with Ipswich needing just a point from their final game of the season after a 2-1 win over Coventry on Tuesday April 30 to secure automatic promotion themselves.
And Mavididi, who has been a key member of the Foxes squad this season, took to his personal X account (1 May) to fire shots at the Whites and Rutter in particular by bringing up some old comments from Leeds’ win over Leicester earlier his season.
The 25-year-old posted a video of himself brushing his teeth while a video of Rutter saying that Leeds “are the best team” played in the background.
Leeds United have their playoff team talk sorted
It’s been a long season for Leeds and their fans, and the rollercoaster of emotions has hit it’s peak over the last month or so where Farke’s side managed just four points from five games.
They’ve only got themselves to blame for not securing automatic promotion when it was in their hands, but with the playoffs now seemingly inevitable they have to find a way to pick themselves up and go again.
Mavididi has every right to rub salt into the wounds. Leeds chased Leicester down all season and crumbled, while the Foxes ultimately did what was expected of them and not only got back to the Premier League but won the title too.
But the players, Farke and the fans now have all the motivation they need for the final games of the season. They should print the screenshot of Mavididi’s post and stick it on the wall. Nothing else needs to be said.
Leeds are still the strongest team remaining in the running for promotion and while football isn’t played on paper, if they don’t go up they’ll only have themselves to blame.
