Leeds will welcome latest PL move to tackle VAR controversy

The Premier League will ask it’s clubs for suggestions on how to improve the Video Assistant Referee system ahead of next season, according to the Daily Mail, in a move Leeds United will welcome.

This is one VAR decision we can get on board with.

It is fair to say we have been shafted by VAR on a few occasions this season, most recently with a shambolic offside call in our 2-0 loss to West Ham.

A few weeks prior, Patrick Bamford was given as offside which ruled out what looked like a perfectly good goal against Wolves.

The current VAR system does not work and that is no more evident when it comes to the marginal offside calls we see every week.

There are three or four huge offside talking points every week and social media is always flooded with comments about ‘how on earth has he given that as onside?’.

Something needs to change and it looks as if it will.

The Daily Mail report that club managers and captains will be asked for their thoughts on a selection of VAR decisions and we wouldn’t be surprised if some clips feature Leeds.

It seems as though this has been fast-tracked after Manchester City were denied a stonewall penalty against Southampton on Wednesday night in what is one of the worst decisions we have ever seen.

We’d love to hear what Marcelo Bielsa and Liam Cooper have to say about recent decisions and were sure Bamford will be having words with his captain in the coming days.

This latest move by the Premier League is a rare occasion where they’ve got things right this season as it gives current players time to vent their frustrations and hopefully help to improve what is a deeply flawed system.

No one wants VAR to work more than Leeds fans as we have been denied by dodgy offside lines on too many occasions this season.

Every club should welcome this move and we believe Leeds will, it’s the only way to sort out the mess that is the current VAR system.

In other Leeds United news, the links to Ben White need to stop.
