TalkSPORT host Adrian Durham has claimed that Leeds United “will” suffer relegation from the Premier League and that Marcelo Bielsa “will” leave Elland Road.

Leeds blew the Championship aside last season as they won automatic promotion to the Premier League in their second season with the Argentine in the hotseat and have since improved the squad by signing Spain forward Rodrigo and Germany centre-back Robin Koch.

Durham has pointed to Leeds’ lack of recruitment as to the key reason why he thinks they will return to the Championship – but his bold claims had co-host Darren Gough in fits of giggles.

“I think Leeds will be relegated. I think Bielsa will leave as well,” said Durham, as shown on talkSPORT’s official Twitter account before being interrupted by Gough laughing.

“I don’t like saying it. You know I’ve got a soft spot for Leeds – what are you laughing at?”

Gough responded: “I’ve lost the plot here, say it again?

Durham continued: “Leeds will be relegated and Bielsa will leave. What’s wrong with that? They’re a newly-promoted side and here’s the thing.

“I think recruitment has shown a bit of a disregard for the levels required in the Premier League.”

Gough’s laughing interrupted Durham again and the ex-cricket star said: “I think you might get half of that right. There’s a chance Bielsa will leave anyway – no matter what.

“One year in the Premier League, he’s unpredictable, right? But I don’t think Leeds will get relegated.”

Durham continued with his rant by saying: “Ben White has gone and I think a lot is being asked of Kalvin Phillips. We don’t know if he’s going to be able to prove it in the Premier League.

“I, personally, believe he’s good enough but I look around the rest of the Leeds team and I see Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling at full-back. They’re decent and they’ve done great and they’ve improved dramatically but these are players who were bottom half of the Championship a couple of years ago.

“For [Bielsa] to improve them to where they’ve got to now is amazing. But to take them to another level where they survive in the Premier League, I think it may well be beyond Bielsa.”

Bookmark this tweet, Leeds United fans. Because Durham will more than likely be bombarded with reminders about this wild claim about the Yorkshire giants and their manager come the end of the season.

Let’s go back to last July.

Now, we don’t like defending our Yorkshire rivals but last summer, Durham said that Sheffield United would be relegated to the Championship and added that the Blades were “not taking the Premier League seriously” and that they were “underestimating the jump from Championship to Premier League”.

If anything, Durham is overestimating the gap in quality between the Championship and the Premier League because Chris Wilder managed to lead his side to a ninth-placed finish last season and even had them in contention to qualify for Europe.

Wilder’s a good manager. Bielsa is an amazing manager and one of the best coaches in the world.

Never mind what Durham says. We know exactly how good our manager is and how good he is going to get these players playing in the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, there’s been a twist in Leeds’ bid to sign this player.
