Leeds want to sign Marco Asensio, plan B for Adama Traore

Leeds United want to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this summer, according to Fichajes.

The Spanish outlet has reported that the 25-year-old has been identified as a plan B for Wolves star Adama Traore.

Reports of a £30million bid for the winger are said to be wide of the mark, leaving our plans for an attacker in the air.

Traore is said to be a major target of many, but sees Elland Road as a sideways step, and wants Champions League football.

That opens the door for other targets.

Asensio is reportedly available, with Carlo Ancelotti not trusting the winger who is currently at the Olympics with Spain.

Everton and Leicester look set to provide competition, with a move to the Premier League looking very likely for the 25-year-old.

Look elsewhere?

It is easy to look at Asensio’s CV and get excited, especially given that he has been at a huge club such as Real Madrid for so long.

Having said that, the winger only scored five goals and delivered two assists in his 35 appearances in La Liga last season.

Marcelo Bielsa will surely want more than that, and given Ancelotti’s stance on the player, he hasn’t given us the best feeling.

A midfielder appears to be the priority right now, and the winger hunt may go to the wire at the end of this month.

That works well with Asensio being away in Japan at the Olympics, and likely needing to quarantine on his return.

This one won’t move quickly and expect Leeds to strengthen elsewhere first.
