Leeds United dubbed ‘exceptional’ over very rare dominance they’ve achieved

Leeds United sit in pole position in the Championship despite winning just one of their last four games and are still in a great position to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites have largely dominated in the second tier this season, which is best demonstrated by the fact that they have already scored 76 goals with eight games still yet to play.

Their class and ruthless attacking edge was best demonstrated when Daniel Farke’s men hammered Cardiff 7-0 on 1st February.

Leeds have also enjoyed heavy wins over the likes of play-off chasers Watford and Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

EFL podcaster outlines area where Leeds are ‘exceptional’

After seeing their side lose in the play-off final last term, the Elland Road faithful will be pleased by the fact that their side look likely to earn automatic promotion this time around.

On the latest episode of the Not The Top 20 Podcast [24 March] Ali Maxwell outlined why Farke’s men have been so good this term: “Leeds’ underlying numbers are exceptional.

“Per expected goals and non-penalty expected goals they create about a goal’s worth of XG (expected goals) more than their opponents on average every single game.

“That’s a level of dominance that’s very rare, pretty much at any level.”

Leeds must get back to winning ways following international break

Leeds have been the best team in the Championship for the vast majority of the season, which is aptly portrayed by their top-of-the-league status.

But the Whites have managed just one win from their last four games in the second tier, which is not the sort of form that belongs to a side who are intent on winning the league.

It is therefore crucial that Farke and Co. manage to get themselves back to winning ways when they host Swansea on 29 March on their first game back following the international break.

Despite the sort of brilliance Maxwell described from Leeds, the West Yorkshire giants are still only two points clear of third-place Burnley and must restore their previous momentum amid a closely fought battle for automatic promotion.

The closing weeks of the season do look fruitful for the Whites though, as they have to take on relegation candidates Luton, Oxford, Stoke, and Plymouth.
