Leeds United’s Premier League relegation chances shift in updated supercomputer prediction

Leeds United have put clear daylight between themselves and the relegation places after their win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Palace went into the clash with Leeds as favourites, but it was to be a memorable Elland Road evening for Daniel Farke’s side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin shone as Leeds ran out 4-1 winners over Oliver Glasner’s men, with the striker bagging a brace, while Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach also got on the scoresheet.

It was a game that didn’t escape a couple of controversial decisions either, with VAR overturning a penalty for Leeds, only to see Stach curl in a superb free-kick after it was deemed the foul took place outside the box.

Keith Hackett also thinks Leeds should’ve had a penalty when Brenden Aaronson was brought down by Tyrick Mitchell, but VAR checked and cleared the incident much to the dismay of many inside Elland Road.

Leeds backed for Premier League survival after Crystal Palace win

Farke looks to have put to bed any talk of him being sacked, at least for now, with his team now unbeaten in four Premier League games.

Leeds’ attack has come to life in recent weeks, with three or more goals being scored in three of their last four, while they were also able to put two past Manchester City when cruelly denied a point by Phil Foden’s added-time winner.

As such, this upturn in form and now, after the win against Crystal Palace, the Opta Analyst supercomputer is predicting that Leeds will finish 17th and secure their top-flight status this season.

Leeds now have a 22.42 per cent chance of relegation, with an expected points tally of around 42, with West Ham, Burnley and Wolves all tipped to go down.

Leeds could be dragged back into relegation battle with tough run of games ahead

Farke will be fully aware that his Leeds side aren’t out of the proverbial woods just yet.

His players won’t need reminding either, as they prepare for a tough run of fixtures over the festive and New Year period.

Sunderland away is next on the agenda for the Whites, before a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on New Year’s Day.

After that, they will welcome bitter rivals Manchester United to Elland Road, before a clash with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on 7 January.

Leeds will also have to play both Everton and Arsenal before the month of January is out, and so points will certainly have to be hard earned over the next few weeks.

So, Leeds must harness this feel-good factor and weaponise the confidence they’re playing with to get them through this sticky period of the season.
