Lee Sobot blown away by Leeds United youngster Sonny Perkins performance for England Under-19s

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Lee Sobot was wowed by Leeds United youngster Sonny Perkins’ goal for England Under-19s on Wednesday evening.

Perkins is keeping up his terrific goalscoring run and netted on his debut for England-U19s solidifying his name as a lethal poacher.

Sobot admitted that it was “obvious” the bright youngster would score after thoroughly impressing since joining from West Ham.

Speaking via his Twitter page, Sobot sang the praises of Perkins who was crowned Premier League 2 Player of the Month for August.

“What a run. Victory for an England Under-19s side for whom Leeds United duo Sonny Perkins and Darko Gyabi both started, with Perkins scoring, obviously.”

One to watch.

Perkins is proving to be a very shrewd signing for the Whites, it’s no wonder West Ham were so publically disappointed at losing one of their brightest talents.

The forward has scored in every game he’s played for Leeds Under 21s this season; an impressive six goals in five games.

And now after scoring in his England-U19s debut, Perkins is proving to have a passion for scoring goals, something that would be welcomed in Jesse Marsch’s first team.

He’s also forming a favourable partnership with another youngster, Mateo Joseph, who has also notched five goals for the U21s this campaign.

Perkins will still need time to prove he is worthy of a first-team call-up; perhaps an EFL Cup third-round tie against Wolves could be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Nevertheless, the 18-year-old has plenty of time on his hands to prove himself at the highest level; he’s the one to watch from the youth system this season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “extraordinary” African international next year.
