Leeds United youngster Lewis Bate picked up ankle injury

Leeds United youngster Lewis Bate has picked up a knock on his ankle, according to Leeds Live journalist Joe Donnohue.

The Whites Under 23 side were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon (20 March) where Bate was taken off after he picked a knock on his ankle.

Bate was looking sharp and recovered a lot of possession, but his game time was curtailed.

Promising Leeds United talent

Bate is a highly-rated young talent. He left Chelsea last summer to join Leeds and it wasn’t a happy return to Stamford Bridge for him.

The midfielder is yet to play under the new Whites boss, Jesse Marsch.

However, he has often been included in the matchday squad, and it is only a matter of time before he gets to play for the senior team under the American boss.

Marsch has made it very clear from the beginning that one of his footballing philosophies is to nurture young talents. It is expected that he will continue the good work done by Marcelo Bielsa in grooming young talents from the academy.

However, a potential injury setback means, Bate will have to wait for his opportunities. Let’s hope that it’s only a mere knock, and nothing serious.

The Whites are currently missing several key senior figures through injuries, but the international break probably has come at the right time.

Marsch will be hoping that his key players will return to fitness during the break.
