Leeds United youngster Charlie Allen reveals Northern Ireland ambition ahead of ‘massive’ England clash

Leeds United youngster Charlie Allen is eager to take his club form into the current international break with Northern Ireland.

The 19-year-old has been called up to his country’s Under-21 squad for their Euro qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Serbia this month.

Northern Ireland Under-21s then take on top-of-the-table England in November in the next international break, with the former currently fifth in the table.

“Obviously the last few games I’ve been scoring a few goals for Leeds,” Allen said on the official Northern Ireland Instagram account.

“So before I came to the camp I was just thinking to maintain that form while I’m away with Northern Ireland and get a few goals for my country.

“If we can pick something up from these two games, taking that into a massive game against England should give us more confidence.”

Chance to impress

Allen will be desperate to impress new Northern Ireland Under-21 manager Tommy Wright, with the nation travelling to Azerbaijan first up on Thursday (12 October).

It is then a home clash with Serbia on Monday (16 October), with the Whites player eager to be heavily involved as the nation look to pick up some important points.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke meanwhile will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how all of the players at the Elland Road club get on during the international break.

Allen may not be at the forefront of the German’s mind right now, but impressive displays for both club and country will ensure he remains on the right trajectory, with the player hoping that it culminates in a first-team debut in the not-too-distant future.

The Whites teenager has one goal and one assist from his three Leeds Under-21 Premier League 2 appearances this season, and will be keen to build on those tallies in the coming months.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites player has reacted to Eden Hazard’s retirement announcement with a small tribute.
