Leeds United yet to make approach for new manager, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou on list – Sky Sports reporter

Leeds United are yet to make any approaches in their search for a new manager, but Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is among a list of names they are considering, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The Whites parted ways with Jesse Marsch after less than 12 months in the job, with an uninspiring 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground the nail in the coffin for the American.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning (7 February) from outside Elland Road, Thornton revealed the list of names who Leeds were doing their due diligence on as potential successors to Marsch.

He said: “There are a number of names on the radar for Leeds United. Andoni Iraola, the Rayo Vallecano manager, has been mentioned.

“Carlos Corberan is another. He’s a very familiar name to Leeds fans, of course, having worked here, coaching the Under-21s and then being promoted to work with Marcelo Bielsa with the first team. He’s done a terrific job at West Brom and, prior to that, with Huddersfield Town.

“Ange Postecoglou at Celtic is another name that Leeds have on their radar, but I would stress that Leeds are also looking at other potential candidates, and they haven’t made an approach yet for anyone.

“So there is no suggestion that they’re far down the path with appointing a new manager, but they are working through a list of potential candidates.”

Options

Despite Leeds’ poor position in the Premier League table, the job at Elland Road remains attractive, with a squad brimming with international quality and a takeover by the 49ers on the horizon.

Postecoglou would probably be unlikely to leave Celtic right at this moment, although he is undoubtedly a Premier League manager in the waiting, and due to the fresh competition ignited by Michael Beale’s arrival at noisy neighbours Rangers.

Corberan seems to be the name that makes the most sense after previously working under Marcelo Bielsa as a core member of his coaching team. The magic he has weaved at West Brom this season has been nothing short of miraculous, with the Baggies climbing from the precipice of the Championship relegation zone all the way to the top six since he took the reins.

Andoni solidified his credentials for the job with a 2-0 win in La Liga on Monday night – three points that take his side all way up to fifth in the Spanish top tier.
