Leeds United would need £15million to sign Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha – Phil Hay
Leeds United would need a “meaningful budget” to sign Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha in January, who is said to be valued at £15million, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist shared that a striker is top of the agenda for the Whites next month, and the Brazilian has been scouted by Victor Orta before at Elland Road.
Wolves have been strongly linked with Cunha though, so there could be a race on to get to Atletico Madrid first should Leeds follow up on old interest again.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic during the World Cup, Hay shared the latest on the plans for January and what sort of cash could be needed.
“Leeds are known in the past to have shown interest in Matheus Cunha, the Atletico Madrid forward who could be on the move in the next window,” he wrote.
“Orta scouted him previously and Cunha is being strongly linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers having played infrequently for Atletico in the past six months.
“Signing him, however, would require a meaningful budget for a player who is thought to be valued at around £15million ($18.4m).”

Bargain?
When Leeds were rivalling Atletico for Cunha, he was at Hertha Berlin ready to explode elsewhere.
That simply hasn’t happened since his move to Spain, and it looks as though the door is officially wide open for the South American to make that step into the Premier League.
£22.3million is what it cost the La Liga side, so moving him on for £15million now could see Leeds pick up a bargain, although Cunha would need bringing back to life it seems.
Havgin scored only six times in 29 appearances last season and failing to find the back of the net this campaign, Orta may have second thoughts and let Wolves take him.
You simply don’t fall out of love with one player though because of one average season, and we know how obsessive the Spaniard can be.
With a striker on the wishlist and Cunha potentially now available, it would be no surprise whatsoever if he was to turn up to Elland Road in January – bring it on.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now scouting an attacker at the World Cup and a January move appears to be on the cards for them.
