Leeds United would love to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul

Leeds United would love to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.

The Argentina international was on Leeds’ radar in the summer of 2020, but he did not end up joining.

A year later he moved to Madrid and Jones believes that Victor Orta still admires him.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said, “Victor Orta loves him, but I just think he’s beyond their reach at the moment. I mean, financially, I’m not sure that they can go there at the moment.

“He’ll be linked with some massive clubs and be on big wages. So, while I’m sure they would love him, I would imagine he’s beyond their reach at this point.”

Move on

Not signing De Paul two years ago will definitely go down as one of the biggest mistakes of Orta’s time at the club.

Everything seemed to be in place but the finances were not quite there and in the end, the move fizzled out.

He then left Udinese for Atletico and while he’s not really breaking down walls there, he’s still a quality midfielder.

Diego Simeone plays a defensive brand of football and that restricts the Argentine from venturing forward.

At Leeds, especially under Marcelo Bielsa, he would’ve been an absolute revelation.

Even with Jesse Marsch in charge, there’ll be a place for him in the team, but given the fact that big clubs are likely to be interested, Leeds need to move on from him.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could look to sign a ‘Phenomenal’ attacking midfielder this summer as he’s already bid farewell to fans of his club.
