Leeds United would be preferred move for left-back Kai Wagner

Leeds United is the preferred destination for Philadephia Union defender Kai Wagner, according to Forbes journalist Manuel Veth.

The 25-year-old has been plying his trade in the MLS since 2019 when he joined Union from German side Wurzburger Kickers and has racked up over 100 appearances since then.

Wagner has managed to catch the eye of the Whites who are now in a three-horse race to sign the German with Portuguese giants Benfica and the dominant Croatian outfit of Dinamo Zagreb.

But despite two Champions League clubs looking at signing him, Wagner and his representatives seem to be edging towards a move to the Premier League instead.

“(Jesse) Marsch seems to be a big fan of Kai Wagner,” Veth said via his personal Twitter account. “Benfica are interested as are Dinamo Zagreb but the Wagner camps seems to prefer Leeds United.”

About time

It should not have taken this long for Victor Orta to bring in a left-back considering there is no natural fit to play for Leeds United right now.

But at least there are targets on the list and moves being made which is still a much better place to be in than not doing anything at all, even if it is still rather stressful at times.

Junior Firpo’s near constant injury problems have, fortunately, not caused too many issues so far with four points from a possible six to start the new season but that won’t carry on forever with Pascal Struijk in his place.

Wagner is a necessity for Marsch now and he could really do with the 25-year-old signed on the dotted line and cleared to play before the Whites welcome Chelsea to Elland Road on Sunday (21 August) or the Blues’ wing players could have a field day against the stand-in Dutchman.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch has made a big U-turn over this Leeds ace who is now set to stay at Thorp Arch after previously wanting to leave.
