Leeds United Women ground decision pays off as home crowds rise by 102%

The home attendances of Leeds United Women have risen by 102% this season, according to Talking WoSo.

Leeds have attracted an average of 366 fans across their opening two Women’s National League Division One North matches at Bannister Prentice Stadium.

Digital platform Talking WoSo, who cover tiers three to seven of the women’s football pyramid, hailed the upturn in crowds on Twitter.

“Whites embrace return,” the post read [21 September]. “@LUFC Women have so far averaged crowds of 366 this season, an increase of 102% on last season’s average home league attendance, as fans embrace the Whites’ return to Bannister Prentice Stadium.

Leeds announced in July that they would return to the Bannister Prentice Stadium – the home of Garforth Town – for the 2023-24 campaign.

With the ground recently undergoing a renovation, it makes for an enhanced matchday experience for those who attend games.

It follows a spell playing at So-Trak Stadium over the past few seasons, but moving games back to Garforth is clearly paying off.

Indeed, attendances across the board in women’s football have continued to rise [BBC Sport] since England Women’s Euro 2022 triumph.

The home support has helped, too, as Leeds have won both games on home soil this season, overcoming Stockport County and Durham Cestria.

After a run of away games in the league and cup, United return to Bannister Prentice Stadium against United of Manchester on 11 October.
