Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto opens up on first ‘dispute’ at Elland Road
Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto has revealed his first “dispute” after joining the West Yorkshire club last summer from FC Zurich.
The Italian international is currently back in his homeland on international duty and was quizzed by Corriere Della Sera (Wednesday, 22 March, page 43) on his move to Elland Road, which he described as “beautiful.”
Gnonto admitted there was a dispute with the under-21s at first before he ensured that he was a frequent fixture in the senior side due to his excellent performances under both Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia.

Since breaking into the first team, Gnonto has been a revelation, scoring two goals and providing three assists from 16 appearances and being one of the few players who enhanced their reputations during the Marsch era.

Bargain
Considering Leeds paid a mere £3.8million, Gnonto has looked like an absolute bargain and one of the club’s best pieces of transfer business in years.
The diminutive winger has defied all expectations in his opening campaign at the West Yorkshire club, but now the challenge will be ensuring he remains a Leeds player in the long run.
Already the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are lining up moves for the Whites forward in the summer, and the club will do well to keep him beyond the summer by the looks of it. [Gazzetta dello Sport, 22 March]
Either way, though, Leeds will surely make a healthy profit from the signing of Gnonto.
If the club’s hand is forced and the Italian moves on in the summer, they will make a significant profit on the tiny fee they paid last summer, while they could reap the rewards on the pitch over the coming years if he remains at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites may have yet another injury concern going into the international break as player has trouble with his left ankle after the Wolves win.
