Leeds United winger Raphinha wanted by West Ham United
Leeds United winger Raphinha has been targeted by West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Catalan based newspaper Sport.
The Hammers made a bid to sign the 25-year-old winger in January, but Marcelo Bielsa rejected any advances.
Barcelona are interested in signing him, but Sport claim, it’s West Ham who are showing more interest in bringing him to the London Stadium and have made an approach ahead of the summer.
Raphinha has a contract at Elland Road until 2024, but it seems this could be his last season at the club.
Jesse Marsch wants him to be a part of the side, while the player has always stated his desire to continue.
But, the scenario has changed this season. The Whites are fighting for survival, and if they drop to the Championship, they will only lose some of their key players but will be forced to offload Raphinha for almost half the price.
Raphinha has scored 10 goals this season and he is a key player for the club. He was described as “phenomenal” by ex-Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford earlier this season.
For a player of his ability, he should be playing for a Champions League club, and not in a team fighting for survival. Therefore, if he decides to move on, the fans will understand.
Having said that, the Brazilian probably won’t be tempted to join the Hammers, unless they can offer him Champions League football next term.
