Leeds will sign new number two goalkeeper behind Illan Meslier
Leeds United and Victor Orta are already working hard to replace Kiko Casilla after his exit was confirmed.
The Spaniard returned to La Liga on Monday evening on an initial loan deal but could make that permanent next summer.
Marcelo Bielsa now has little-to-no experience in his goalkeeping ranks, with Illan Meslier expected to remain number one.
Beren Cross has shared the update on Orta for Leeds Live this week and insisted that a new goalkeeper will be brought in.
The Premier League season kicks off in basically one month, and it shouldn’t be either Elia Caprile and Dani van den Heuvel on the bench at Old Trafford.
The reliable journalist has reported that Orta already has his list of targets and that the new keeper will stick as number two behind Casilla.
Whoever the new goalkeeper should be, they will become the third permanent signing for the first team.
This is a move that has needed to happen for some time.
Both Leeds and Casilla needed a fresh start, and it was never going to work at Elland Road given that fragile relationship between all parties.
Bielsa tried his best to give the Spaniard what he wanted with two starts at the end of last season, but that wasn’t enough.
For the Whites, they have released some big money from the wage-bill for a player who didn’t feature, leaving them free to go into the market once more.
We don’t expect the new signing to be as young as what we already have, but someone with experience of playing second fiddle throughout their career, unless Orta goes down a different path.
Another young talent could come in, but what would that say about the likes of Caprile? Time will tell.
