Leeds United will not throw money at Arnaud Kalimuendo and Martin Terrier

Leeds United are unlikely to be finished in the transfer market but are not prepared to simply “throw money” at their final targets, says Ryan Taylor.

The Whites are looking at strikers to put the finishing touches to a very busy summer, but there is currently little movement on the Ligue 1 front amid interest in both Arnaud Kalimuendo and Martin Terrier.

Express reporter Taylor feels there is further activity still to come before the close of the transfer window, but “strategic” shopping is the order of the day in West Yorkshire.

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday (1 August) he said: “There has been a lot of new blood really at Elland Road in terms of new signings but I don’t think we’ve seen the last of them [Leeds] just yet.

“I just think Leeds want to continue to shop efficiently. They don’t want to just throw money at it because these signings need to be right.

“It needs to be strategic recruitment and I think Leeds have shown that so far with the kind of players they’re targeting.”

With top target Charles De Ketelaere proving to be a fruitless chase, on PSG striker Kalimuendo Taylor doesn’t believe there is anything “imminent” despite an offer being lodged, and there is nothing “concrete” yet with regards to Rennes forward Terrier.

Frustrating

The speed and purpose with which the club operated for the majority of the transfer window, starting early and bringing in recruits throughout the squad has given way for a slow second act.

There was hope for a long time that United could take advantage of AC Milan’s inability to get the De Ketelaere deal done, despite the player only having eyes for the Italian champions.

But now that he looks to have got his wish, Jesse Marsch is still waiting for a new forward of his own, and while the French pair are two key names there doesn’t look like much danger of either arriving any time soon.

Leeds United

It seems likely that the season will start with incumbents Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt as the options up front, which is fine as long as they can stay fit.

That proved wishful thinking for most of last season so another option would make the squad look more complete.

Either Kalimuendo or Terrier appear to be suitable quality, but the former is probably more likely once the season gets under way and the star-studded forward options at the the Parc des Princes take their place in the starting XI a few times.

In other Leeds United news, one of the current attacking options in the squad is at a crucial juncture and it has been suggested that he could look to leave before the window closes.
