Leeds United will not stop Willy Gnonto from sealing Elland Road transfer – Jermaine Beckford

Jermaine Beckford claims that Leeds United will not stand in Willy Gnonto’s way if he does decide to leave the club post relegation.

The former Whites striker believes that the Italy international has already emerged as a fan favourite at Elland Road despite being there for less than a year.

He also does not see a shortage of suitors for him in the market so this is a transfer that’s on the cards, in his view.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ post-match show, Beckford said while discussing potential exits (29/05, 19:16), “Willy Gnonto has cemented himself as a fan favourite. He’s got a lot of awareness about himself which is what will see others wanting to sign him. If he moves on, I don’t see the club stopping him.”

Healthy profit needed

Leeds signed Gnonto for a relative bargain in the summer transfer window and he’s already shown what a talent he can be.

Despite being raw and lacking that edge in the final third, this is a player that has the ability to turn games on their head because of his trickery and direct running ability.

There are undoubtedly going to be plenty of suitors looking to sign him and they’ll know they can get him for even cheaper now.

Leeds need to ensure that they get at least three times of what they paid for him as that’s a fair value for a player of his calibre in the Championship.

If the new sporting director or whoever eventually calls the shots can get closer to £20million for the 19-year-old then it’s going to be a good deal.

Of course, fans would want him to stay, but they know that the Championship will pose its own set of challenges and they need to raise as much money as possible.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that an international player at Elland Road has no place at the club next season and a summer transfer is on the cards.
