Leeds United will need £50m to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Leeds United will reportedly need to submit a bid in the region of £50million to sign in-demand Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
According to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, any club interested in him are unlikely to sign him for less than that, given that the Bees sold Ollie Watkins for £30million back when they were in the Championship.
The Mirror reported on July 16 that along with the Whites, Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham were also keen on signing the English striker.
Discussing the possibility of him leaving this summer, Jones said on the Football Terrace, “They sold Watkins for £30million when they were in the Championship. Now they’re in the PL and he’s proven himself and guarantees goals. So you can add £10m and moillionve it closer to £50million for Toney.”
Jesse Marsch is understood to be keen on signing the 26-year-old as he sees him as the perfect partner to Patrick Bamford in the final third.
No chance
We do not see this move happening in a million years, given the price that’s being quoted for him.
If Leeds are to spend that kind of money on a player, it will be for someone who’s proven not just in the Premier League but also the Champions League.
Someone who would come to Elland Road with that winner’s mentality and the experience of getting the job done in the biggest of games.
While Toney is good and many would take him at Leeds, his price tag would certainly have to be brought down in order to do any deal.
Forget Leeds, we do not see any of the three teams in the race also pursuing his services if that’s what Brentford want.
For them to reduce his price, Toney would himself have to inform the club that he plans on leaving and then that would put pressure on the West London club.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a midfielder who was admired by Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave this summer.
