Leeds United will match Hibs valuation for Josh Doig player left out of squad

Leeds United target Josh Doig has been omitted from Hibernian’s matchday squad by manager Jack Ross today (Sunday), according to The Daily Record.

The report states that the Whites are willing to match Hibs’ asking price for the 19-year-old.

There’s a keen interest from Arsenal who are also open to shelling out £5million for Doig as it is the price tag Hibs’ sporting director Graeme Mathie slapped on the young defender.

West Ham United, Watford and a host of Championship clubs are also keen on signing Doig this summer.

Looks good

Doig isn’t a defender who walks into our playing eleven should he join this summer, but is one for the future and will thrive for our U-23s.

Victor Orta must be all over the left-back as he could come in this summer and maybe even get a few games in the senior team given the fact that Leif Davis left for Bournemouth on loan.

Marcelo Bielsa is known to bring the best out of youngsters willing to go the extra mile and Doig is undoubtedly a model professional who would be a welcome presence at Thorp Arch.

After making his debut for Hibs last August, he was duly praised by Ross. Per FourFourTwo, Ross said, “Josh is an 18-year-old making his full debut for the club, but he was excellent.

“He tired a bit, and was playing against a really good opponent in Chris Burke, so that will be another good education for him. But he can be very pleased with himself.

“It’s emotionally draining making your debut, whether fans are there or not, and he looked like he had played a number of games already.”

Since then, he has gone from strength to strength and has established himself as a regular despite being in his teenage years.

The full-back burst onto the scene at the start of last season and few expected him to have the sort of impact he did in the coming months.

He was named Young Player of the Year and also played a pivotal role in guiding his club to a third place finish in the league, as well as cup semi-finals and a final.

We should be looking to sign him as soon as possible and tempt him with first-team minutes as he’s unlikely to be the second-choice next season at Arsenal while he very well could at Elland Road.
