Leeds United will know who is out there if they need to replace Victor Orta – Phil Hay

Phil Hay has insisted that Leeds United will know who they could go for to replace Victor Orta should they need to in the near future at Elland Road.

The Sporting Director has been linked with Chelsea heavily in recent weeks, with Todd Boehly looking to shake things up with massive changes at Stamford Bridge.

Jesse Marsch admitted that Orta was happy at Elland Road, but Hay admitted that any potential new face would need to fit in quickly and continue the work of the Spaniard.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show podcast, the journalist admitted that the club will most likely always be prepared for any outcome.

“Everyone would factor in as they would for a head coaches appointment as well,” he said.

“You canvas the thoughts, especially your major ones – they will undoubtedly have an idea of who else is out there and who they could go for. It will be an extremely appealing job should Orta go, there’s nothing at this stage to say that he will so we’re being pre-emptive.

“It stands to reason that you have to be prepared to replace your Sporting Director, you’ve got to be in a position to understand who could fit in quickly.

“I don’t think if Leeds found themselves replacing Orta, they would want a complete clearing of the decks at all, I think they would want a lot of what is in place to carry on, so yeah, they will know what is out there.”

Ready.

Leeds will not want to lose Orta whatsoever, but they need to be prepared well in advance.

Orta himself had numerous names, with Marsch on the top of the list to replace Marcelo Bielsa well before he was sacked at Elland Road – that is how football works.

Of course, boardroom members and staff are different at club level to players and managers, but the same goes should another club come in and look to poach them.

Leeds would be due compensation from Chelsea if this was to go any further, but that is certainly possible given the money they have available, so Andrea Radrizzani and Angus Kinnear will be keeping an eye on that.

With January and the World Cup only around the corner though, Orta will, no doubt, be losing sleep as he looks to put plans in place for the club.

We know he bleeds white, yellow and blue so even if it is naive, we are not worried at all yet.
