Leeds United will have to complete Cody Gakpo deal on deadline day
Leeds United transfer target Cody Gakpo is set to feature for PSV Eindhoven against Volendam meaning any transfer will have to be completed tomorrow according to Frankie Christou.
The Sun reporter revealed (via Twitter, 31 August) that Southampton and Leeds are targeting the 23-year-old who is set to feature for PSV tonight (31 August).
It’s also understood that if his valuation is met, a deal will have to be completed tomorrow (1 September) before the transfer window slams shut.
Big battle
If Gakpo opts to move to Southampton over Leeds it will be a massive kick in the teeth for the Elland Road faithful.
The Dutch international is one of Europe’s hottest properties and if Leeds are outmuscled by a mid-table Premier League club for his services it will be a travesty.

Southampton have shown ambition this summer, but they aren’t on the same planet when it comes to the size, history and fan base of Leeds United.
Gakpo would be the missing piece of the puzzle for Marsch, with the PSV man able to play a variety of positions across the front line including the centre-forward role.
Considering his ability and stock at the moment, PSV’s asking price is still relatively low.
Their failure to qualify for the Champions League is also a big boost for Leeds and any potential suitor.
If PSV had got past Rangers, then it would have been very tricky for Gakpo to be prised away from the prospect of playing in Europe’s best competition with the world’s elite players.
If Southampton do push on with a deal for Gakpo, it’s crucial that Leeds match their Premier League rivals toe for toe.
