‘Leeds will be desperate’ – Harry Redknapp predicts winner as Fulham travel to Elland Road
Harry Redknapp has backed Leeds United to get back on track with all three points against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
The former Tottenham manager claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be desperate to not throw away their spot in the top-two after all the good work put in place before the lockdown.
Both sides come into the game at Elland Road on the back of 2-0 defeats last weekend, with Leeds keeping their seven-point gap to the Cottagers.
Redknapp claimed that Fulham have to win in order to keep their automatic promotion dreams alive, something he doubts will happen.
“Leeds remain Championship title favourites despite slipping to second place on goal difference after suffering a 2-0 loss at Cardiff last Sunday,” he wrote for BetVictor.
“Lockdown came at just the wrong time for the Whites who had previously won all five league games and looked well on course to gain promotion.
“The London team have struggled for consistency and will realistically have to win in Yorkshire to keep top-two hopes alive.
“However, Leeds will be desperate not to throw away the foundations laid and with a strong record on home soil, can celebrate success and quickly get back on track.”
Scott Parker has already reiterated how important this game is, and should they lose, they will face a near-impossible task to recover the gap that would then be 10 points.
Nate Silver backs up Redknapp’s points, with the prediction expert claiming that Fulham only have a 16% chance of winning the game, compared to Leeds who have a 59% chance at Elland Road [FiveThirtyEight].
After the tough trip to Leeds, Fulham still have the likes of West Brom and Nottingham Forest to face, so either way, the Whites will remain one of the favourites for promotion regardless of the result, but we all want those three points.
