Leeds United want Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks

Leeds United want to sign Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks with the 27-year-old set to return to North London, according to Sampnews24.

Winks has been on-loan with Sampdoria during the 2022/23 season having made 20 league appearances for the Serie A side.

It’s believed the Englishman will return to Tottenham before making a decision on his future after the appointment of Ange Postecoglou (Samp News 24, 7 June).

Winks was reportedly worth £25million to Spurs in May 2022 as Southampton and Newcastle displayed interest (Daily Mail, 26 May).

Adams’ replacement?

Could the links to Winks mean the board are gearing up for Tyler Adams’ departure? The American was a standout performer during the 2022/23 season and has been linked with Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Newcastle United in recent days.

The 24-year-old is far too good to be playing in the second tier and it is probably at a stage in his career where he wants to test himself at a high level. Winks is a player who needs to be playing regularly. His time at Spurs has stalled and a step down to the Championship could be exactly what he needs.

We need decisions to be made quickly. The takeover is nearing completion, which is what everyone wants. But the longer the deal drags on, the greater the impact on Leeds’ hopes of securing an automatic return to the Premier League.

A manager and sporting director have to be the priorities before the board begin to think about reshaping the squad with potential sales and outgoings.

In other Leeds United news, one former EFL manager has confirmed he wants to be the next Whites boss.
