Leeds United want to sign Wolves attacker Morgan Gibbs-White
Leeds United are in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The 22-year-old is currently out on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship and he’s been one of the Blades’ brightest stars since his arrival at Bramall Lane.
He has bagged nine goals and seven assists this season which include this sensational spinning back-heel goal against Middlesbrough in midweek [Sky Sports].
The Whites are among a quartet of clubs listed as monitoring his situation at Molineux along with Southampton, Crystal Palace and Championship table-toppers Fulham.
Wolves are reportedly yet to make a decision on his future but he seems set to play Premier League football next season, whether that’s with his parent club or another side altogether.
Is he an upgrade?
You have to consider what Leeds United are trying to do in the transfer window to judge if this is a good purchase.
If their only hope is to survive next season, if they stay up this campaign, then Gibbs-White can be a decent signing with the jump in quality between the bottom of the Premier League and the top of the Championship not overly astronomical.
If Jesse Marsch wants the Whites to be top-half challengers, then maybe the 22-year-old is best going elsewhere as he would only be a backup providing the right talent is brought in ahead of him.
Leeds have their own crop of young talent that can do the jobs required in Marsch’s 4-2-2-2 system so bringing in Gibbs-White over the top of them seems very contradictory.
The hope will be to have some of the promising teenagers in the setup at Elland Road play more of a role in the senior team while a few fresh faces can revitalise the team back towards the top half of the Premier League, where the club belongs.
