Leeds United want to sign Shea Charles as Manchester City pathway blocked

Manchester City youngster Shea Charles’s pathway to the first team is blocked, with Leeds United wanting to sign the midfielder this summer, according to the Guardian.

The 19-year-old is yet to make an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side, coming closest when he was named on the bench in the club’s Champions League clash against RB Leipzig in February.

He is currently starring in his role as Man City under-21s captain, but could be on the move this summer in order to gain regular playing time at senior level.

“Primarily a holding midfielder, he is also capable of playing right-back and centre-back,” according to the Guardian.

“Charles’s contract runs to 2027, but with his pathway to the first team blocked, he could follow the route of other youngsters and leave.”

Bright future

Leeds United could certainly do with new recruits this summer regardless of what division they are playing in next season, with a major shakeup needed at Elland Road.

Charles is one of a number of young stars of the next generation, with the midfielder already a fully-fledged Northern Ireland international.

His next move will revolve around getting regular minutes for both club and country, with the youngster having the potential to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jadon Sancho in leaving Man City early in order to play first team football elsewhere.

Unfortunately for Leeds, an exact situation could actually happen as Borussia Dortmund are reportedly showing interest, along with Premier League outfit Brentford.

Whether or not Guardiola would be willing to let another young star go remains unknown, but what is certain is that Charles has a huge task on his hands in trying to replace players such as Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne in the Man City midfield.

In other Leeds United news, Dan Plumley has insisted that the Whites will have lost windfall after the “bizarre” turn of events that left Elland Road and the surrounding areas closed.
