Leeds United want to sign Sasa Lukic, talks expected next week
Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic this summer.
According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Serie A outfit want to keep hold of the 24-year-old Serbia international but the Whites are expected to make initial contact next week to negotiate the possibility of a transfer.
The report also states that they will face stiff competition from Russian side Spartak Moscow.
Surely can do better?
Last season, in the absence of Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich’s mixed form, we had to rely on Rodrigo to put in a shift and play as an advanced midfielder, or free eight, to deliver goals and assists from a deeper position.
Given how fluid Marcelo Bielsa’s systems are, he didn’t really seem to be playing in a foreign position, but having a specialist in that area is certainly beneficial.
Last summer, Rodrigo de Paul looked like he was one his way, but we missed out on him he’s now on the books of Atletico Madrid.
Signing a midfielder is paramount this summer, but we’re not fully convinced with Lukic. The 24-year-old was an underwhelming player in an underwhelming team that narrowly avoided relegation last season.
He played 32 league games and only managed to score on three occasions and provided just one assist. Even in the two cup games, he did not particularly impress and we should be targeting better players.
The Torino midfielder, who’s valued at £4.5million by Transfermarkt, spent a year out on loan at Levante in 2017 and failed to impress the hierarchy at Estadi Ciutat as well.
It’s not like we don’t have the money and this a position that needs immediate strengthening.
Victor Orta should be looking to do better than the 24-year-old and get a new player over the line quickly.
