Leeds United want to sign Liverpool midfielder James Milner

Leeds United want to sign Liverpool midfielder James Milner with the 37-year-old set to leave Anfield, according to 90min.

90min report (4 May) that the Whites, Everton and Nottingham Forest would like Milner to wait until the end of the season to assess his options.

It’s understood Liverpool won’t be offering him a new deal which has “opened the door” for a number of Premier League clubs.

However, Brighton and Hove Albion are believed to be the front-runners, with the European-chasing Seagulls pushing to reach an agreement.

Experience

Leeds could desperately use a player of Milner’s experience in their current battle to beat the drop. He’s won pretty much all there is to win at club level and keeps himself in impeccable condition considering his age. Who knows, if a move to Brighton doesn’t materialise, a return to Elland Road could well be on the cards.

However, as we all know, everyone in West Yorkshire will be focussing on securing the club’s Premier League survival. Transfer talks and preparations will have to wait. We have no idea what league Leeds are going to be in and we also don’t know who will be in charge. Furthermore, there’s a director of football position to fill as well.

If Leeds did survive, Milner would be an excellent addition. The lack of leadership within the side is there for all to see and until it’s rectified, Leeds will continue to struggle near the bottom of the table.
