Leeds United want to push ahead with Patrick Vieira talks with offer set

Leeds United want to speak to former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira about the vacant manager position at Elland Road, according to The Sun.

49ers Enterprises have now firmly placed their attention on filling the vacant managerial hot seat after Sam Allardyce’s departure, with Carlos Corberan and Farke the supposed top two targets.

Arsenal club legend Vieira, who was axed by the Eagles in March having not won a game in 2023 and has been out of work ever since has now emerged as a contender.

And according to The Sun [20 June], the Whites are believed to want to push ahead with Vieira and are set to make a proposal to him as they look to secure a manager who is not currently in a job.

Championship experience needed

Vieira actually embarked on an impressive journey at Palace, seeing as it was his first big role in England, getting his players to play an attractive brand of football while getting the fans onside with his approach.

However, his tenure did tail off dramatically, having not won a single game in 2023 before his sacking. And Leeds United bosses will need to look at that drop in form if they are to make a consideration on Vieira’s credentials.

The Championship is an unforgiven league, and with the Whites desperate to secure promotion at the first time of asking, they simply cannot afford to go on long stretches of games without wins, which in such a tough league, is an easy suffering to endure.

Leeds United should be going for a manager with relevant experience and they have two of the best options staring them in the face in Scott Parker and Farke, who have both succeeded in promotions to the Premier League more than once and also play an attractive and progressive brand of football which is established at this level.

Why Leeds United are going for a manager with no experience at Championship level is incredibly baffling, and the 49ers must make this decision with great thought and consideration.

In other Leeds United news, with the new boss now key one man is emerging as a “serious contender” for the job.
