Leeds United want to hire Dimitri de Conde as Victor Orta replacement, he's sold almost £260m worth of players

Leeds United are considering a move for Genk sporting director Dimitri de Condé, according to Belgium news outlet, Nieuwsblad.

De Condé is believed to be on Leeds’ list of names to replace Victor Orta at Elland Road. Tottenham and Southampton are also said to be monitoring the situation (Nieuwsblad, 26 May).

The 48-year-old has been with Genk since 2015 and has made an impression by bringing in younger players and selling them on. During his time with the Jupiler League side, he’s made almost £260million in player sales.

His work with Genk had seen AS Roma and Athletic Bilbao previously take an interest.

Needed

Someone is desperately needed to fill Orta’s shoes heading into the transfer window. It promises to be big summer at Elland Road, irrespective of which league the Whites find themselves in. If they do succumb to relegation on Sunday, there will be a number of players who depart during the off-season.

Someone like de Conde, with a track record of developing younger players, could be exactly what Leeds need particularly in the Championship. Orta’s reign won’t be remembered well. He was lauded for the Marcelo Bielsa appointment and Raphinha transfer, but there were some extremely questionable decisions from the Spaniard.

Another aspect to consider is whether the 49ers will want a sporting director when they take control of the club. It will be for the best if they complete their takeover during the summer. For too long the uncertainty over who owns Leeds has clouded the Yorkshire side. Clarity is what everyone now wants.
