Leeds United want to hire Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany to replace Victor Orta, Aston Villa offer tabled
Leeds United are interested in hiring Mateu Alemany to replace Victor Orta as their director of football, according to Spanish journalist Adria Albets.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night (2 May), the reporter, who works on the Carrusel Deportivo show on Cadena SER radio, reported that Leeds and Newcastle want to hire the 60-year-old, who’s going to leave his director of football role at Barcelona in the summer.
However, Cadena SER have reported that a “very important economic offer” has been made by Aston Villa to hire the former Valencia director and Real Mallorca president.
Unlikely
Leeds look as though they’re going to be relegated and even if they don’t, they’re a team that’s been in back-to-back battles against the drop from the Premier League.
Alemany has worked at the very top in Spain but it has been confirmed by Barcelona on Tuesday night (2 May) that he’ll leave the Nou Camp this summer a year before his contract expires.
He’s played a massive role in helping Barcelona get on top in La Liga this season, helping to oversee the signings of players like Pablo Torre, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski and – who can forget – Raphinha.
But that job at Barce is a bit different to what the job would be at Leeds.
Orta has rightly been sacked by Leeds after years of poor choices in the recruitment department.
Of course, the Spanish transfer chief got certain things right but his decisions since Marcelo Bielsa’s reign ended have been an absolute joke.
Alemany is more than likely going to accept offers from Villa and Newcastle over Leeds.
Why would he join this basketcase of a club right now?
In other Leeds United news, Newcastle now want to sign this Leeds star with a cut-price deal on the cards.
