Leeds United want to bring Rene Maric back to Elland Road, Bayern Munich contract set to expire

Leeds United are interested in bringing Rene Maric back to Elland Road with his Bayern Munich contract set to expire, according to TZ.

Writing on their website (12 May), the German news outlet report that the youth coach has got admirers at Leeds, Sunderland and Bayern, with the Bundesliga giants hierarchy “very happy” with his performance and have described him as a “jewel”.

They want to renew his contract, which is due to expire this summer, but face competition from the Whites who would like to bring him back after his spell as an assistant to Jesse Marsch.

Leeds United have one of the greatest academies in the country

Maric is widely regarded as one of the best young coaches in the game, and his work with the Bayern Munich Under-19’s has been fantastic since his move to Germany.

Leeds have got one of the best academies in the country too, and with Daniel Farke in charge of the first-team and open to creating a pathway for those young players, it could be a match made in heaven.

With Bayern allowing his contract to run down to the final weeks of its validity, that gives the board a big chance to try and bring him back to Leeds and create that partnership.

Sunderland are looking for a new head coach and that could appeal to him in the Championship more than being part of someone’s staff, but also staying at Bayern is likely to be huge for him.

It would be a surprise for the Austrian to come back considering his last run in Yorkshire went and the options he has, but it’s very interesting to know the club are keeping an eye on him.

In other Leeds news, Andy Hinchcliffe was stunned by what he saw during the draw with Norwich.
