‘Leeds want him’ – Danny Murphy says 22yo won’t play for PL reserves, likely to agree Leeds loan

Danny Murphy has said that Ben White won’t be happy with anything less than first-team football next season.

And the talkSPORT pundit thinks that could play into Leeds’ hands as they look to hold onto him for at least another season.

Murphy thinks another season-long loan at Elland Road is the most likely outcome for the 22-year-old centre-back.

Talking on the White & Sawyer show on talkSPORT (Monday, 10.30am) Murphy said, “I’ve seen him [Ben White] play five times this season. He’s a great player. Leeds want him.

“I think what will probably happen, if Brighton stay up and Leeds go up, then it could be another season on loan at Leeds.

“The problem with loans is you never feel settled. The problem for Brighton is, centre-half is his best position. But they’ve got Webster, Dunk and Duffy… This lad ain’t going to want to go back to playing reserves.

“If Leeds go up he might just think, this is it, I want to go.”

Ben White has been an absolute revelation for Leeds this season.

He arrived as an unknown quantity and there were plenty of Leeds United fans who thought he was going to be little more than a back-up after his only previous experience was in Leagues One and Two.

However, he has looked completely assured at centre-back and has even been used in midfield when Kalvin Phillips has been missing.

The only trouble is his performances have put him on the radar of big Premier League clubs, with Liverpool said to be scouting him regularly.

It could make it hard to sign him on a permanent deal for next season but there’s one big thing in Leeds’ favour – that he seems to love playing at Leeds and under Marcelo Bielsa.

We’d take another loan deal but we’d love to sign him permanently.
