Leeds United want Glen Kamara amid expected Rangers exit, competition from Southampton

Leeds United are considering a move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara as he heads towards the Ibrox exit, according to Dean Jones.

The 27-year-old has been regularly linked to an Elland Road move in recent years while he was a central figure for the Glasgow giants.

But having fallen down the pecking order under Michael Beale, who is in the middle of an extensive rebuild as he looks to close the gap on Celtic, the Finnish international is now in line to leave the club and the Whites are interested in picking him up for the Championship.

Jones, formerly of Bleacher Report and Eurosport, told GIVEMESPORT: “Glen Kamara has been a topic of talk for some time, but it does look like he will finally leave.

“Leeds and Southampton are looking at him, and for clubs like that, in the Championship, he would probably be a great signing.

“He has offers from abroad too though, so it’ll be interesting to see what he decides to do.”

Needed?

Daniel Farke is currently facing the prospect of the entire senior midfield from last season leaving this summer, so he certainly needs options in the centre.

Talented youngsters Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray are expected to step up, but a minimum of one signing in the transfer window looks unavoidable.

Adam Forshaw has an option to return after his contract expired, but as yet hasn’t, and Tyler Adams, while a target for the Leeds United hierarchy to hang onto, has numerous interested clubs after him this summer.

Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer is very much a target for the centre of the Whites line up, but amid Premier League interest in the Brazilian it might prove impossible, so Kamara may make sense.

He will likely cost a few million, which would go a long way for Beale but shouldn’t be prohibitive for the Whites under the new 49ers regime, and brings plenty of international and European experience.

It won’t be straight forward necessarily to overcome Southampton’s interest, with Joe Aribo’s presence at St. Mary’s surely relevant.

But after the Nigerian international’s move a year ago turned into somewhat of a nightmare it is hard to say whether that would entice Kamara to join him under new manager Russell Martin or warn him off.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are chasing what could be a crucial senior appointment at Elland Road with talks now underway.
