Leeds United want another Red Bull Salzburg player, scout Benjamin Sesko alongside Manchester United and Tottenham

Leeds United sent scouts to watch Red Bull Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko at the weekend alongside a number of rivals, 90min reports.

The 19-year-old is seen as “one of the most coveted young strikers in Europe” and already has a summer move scheduled to sister side RB Leipzig, but a host of interested clubs are watching him anyway.

The Whites were joined by the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester and Wolves from the Premier League, as well as Italian giants Inter, to watch Salzburg’s 4-2 win at Rapid Wien on Sunday (5 March).

Sesko produced a stunning performance, scoring a hat-trick in the final 10 minutes of the game to prove the match winner.

Teams are thought to be looking at the teenager as a future target once his ability step up to the German Bundesliga has been assessed but Leipzig could feasibly sell him for an immediate profit without ever actually playing him.

The Slovenian international has scored 11 goals in all competitions so far this season, with nine coming in the league.

Special relationship

Leeds United have already signed Sesko’s former Salzburg teammates Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen this season.

And, the Jean-Kevin Augustin saga aside, have plenty of familiarity with the Red Bull family as a whole, having also signed Tyler Adams from Leipzig last summer.

The raft of signings was thought to be largely to back Jesse Marsch as manager, with the American having managed at both the Austrian and German clubs.

But it appears the interest hasn’t ended with his sacking, and the club are no doubt looking to take advantage of the relationship that has obviously been built up over the past two transfer windows.

Given the frustrating lack of goals at such a crucial time in the first team it is probably right now that a player like Sesko is needed.

There is plenty of competition for his services there, and he won’t come cheap if he proves a hit at Leipzig so soon after arriving, but the Whites are clearly going to have plenty of contacts within the Red Bull hierarchies currently so this could be one to keep an eye on.
