Leeds United: Sky Sports pundit stunned by ‘outstanding’ Junior Firpo after Crysencio Summerville mistake v Preston
Andy Hinchcliffe hailed Junior Firpo for his “outstanding” and “brilliant” work that led to Daniel James equalising for Leeds United against Preston North End.
Firpo sent in a cross from the left, despite the pass too him being overhit by Crysencio Summerville, that James got on the end of with six minutes played to cancel out Will Keane’s second-minute opener.
Hinchcliffe, covering the game as co-commentator for Sky Sports [21 January, 12:07pm], was impressed by what he saw from the full-back.
“His running off the ball is outstanding,” Hinchcliffe said. “The cross is quite brilliant because it’s an overhit ball from Summerville.
“He’s running out of room, Firpo, but then he does the right thing and stands the ball up.”
Fair play
Firpo has come in for a fair amount of criticism this season, mainly for defensive reasons, but he showed his qualities with this assist.
The former Barcelona player made a great run off the ball and did even better to then put the ball in an area for James to attack.
Credit must go to James, too, because he came in from the right to meet the ball from the opposite flank, as all wingers should do.

Firpo now has four assists in his past three league outings – one against Cardiff City, two against Birmingham City and now one against Preston.
Having been given a run in the side at left-back, the 27-year-old is starting to grow more and more into the position, as we saw with this assist.
Fingers crossed for more of the same from £13million player.
