Crysencio Summerville absence for Leeds United v Plymouth Argyle FA Cup tie at Elland Road explained

Graham Smyth has confirmed that Crysencio Summerville was absent for Leeds United versus Plymouth Argyle due to being rested by Daniel Farke.

Summerville was a notable omission from United’s matchday squad for the FA Cup fourth-round tie at Elland Road on Saturday (27 January).

That led to concerns that the Netherlands Under-21s international – arguably Leeds’ best performer this season – was carrying an injury.

However, writing on his personal Twitter page [27 January] before kick-off, Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Smyth said: “Crysencio Summerville just being rested today.”

Phew

Leeds could do without Summerville being ruled out of action, even if only for one game, as he has been phenomenal all season long.

Summerville has 12 goals and seven assists in 26 Championship games – a goals contribution tally bettered only Morgan Whittaker (21) and Adam Armstrong (25).

The Dutchman has been a regular for Daniel Farke this season – only four others have started more league games – so this rest is deserved.

The hope is that Summerville’s team-mates can get the job done against fellow Championship side Plymouth in his absence.

Jaidon Anthony and Wilfried Gnonto were instead named in the wide positions – both of whom are in need of minutes – with Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter more central.

Farke’s selection can therefore not be questioned, and hopefully Summerville will be back in the XI come the league trip to Bristol City next week.
