Leeds United victory overshadowed as bottle thrown by fan strikes Mathew Lowton
A shadow was cast over a 3-1 victory for Leeds United as Burnley’s Matt Lowton was struck by a bottle, as per BBC Sport.
A bottle full of liquid with its lid on was misled towards the defender as Burnley celebrated their goal at Elland Road.
With the bottle making contact with Lowton and leaving a clear mark on the Englishman’s forehead, which brought the attention of referee Paul Tierney.

“That would have weight on it, it smacked him in the face,” said BBC commentator Conor McNamara.
“Scenes like that are what’s going to lead to queues coming in, searches for whether people have drinks, removing bottle tops, it’s so unnecessary. There is absolutely no reason to do that.”
Disgusting
One Leeds fan has done a good job of rubbing the club’s name in the dirt. Their disgraceful actions will not be tolerated at Elland Road.
There will no doubt be an enquiry into the incident and hopefully the authorities can hold those responsible to account.

Leeds fans, like all others, love the fan nature of football which includes giving all opponents the toughest time possible when they visit Yorkshire but to potentially seriously harm somebody is a step way too far and is absolutely brainless.
Incidents similar to this are becoming more common in the Premier League as seen when Arsenal fans hurled objects towards celebrating Man City players, but it must stop.
We are better than this in England and the fans must live up to the expectation of the best league in the world.
The only way to stamp this out is for severe consequences for those responsible.
It is a huge shame for Leeds as their hugely positive result will be talked about for all of the wrong reasons.
