Manchester United reportedly view Leeds United keeper Illan Meslier as the ideal option to replace David de Gea as the number one at the club.

According to the Daily Star (August 17, page), the Whites value the Frenchman at £25million amid growing interest in his services.

Erik ten Hag is understood to want a ball-playing goalkeeper and the Spaniard is surely not offering what someone like Meslier would to his side.

Should not sell

Leeds cannot afford to lose Meslier this late in the window even if they’ll be raking in millions of pounds in transfer fees.

Replacing a goalkeeper is not an easy task and to do that in two weeks is nigh on impossible.

Victor Orta does his due diligence before the Whites sign a player and Jesse Marsch too, will have his say on his desired targets.

To come up with names and bring in a player before the end of August is not possible as they also have to scout him and do their background checks.

The earliest they can afford to sell Meslier is in January and that’s if the Frenchman himself demands a move away from Elland Road.

So far, there is no indication of him wanting to leave so the Whites supporters can heave a sigh of relief as the chances of him being sold this window appear to be very less and it seems to be media speculation at this point in time.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
