Daniel Farke ‘almost certain’ to start attacking talent in Leeds United v Swansea City

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke is “almost certain” to start Crysencio Summerville against Swansea City, according to journalist Graham Smyth.

Ian Poveda, who was a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against Rotherham United, has caught Farke’s eye during training at Thorp Arch.

However, Smyth cannot see Poveda being handed a start at the Liberty Stadium due to Summerville’s form out on the left.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post [28 November], Smyth said: “Out wide Farke may look to freshen things up.

“Daniel James took a significant blow to the shin from Lee Peltier on Friday night, leaving him swollen and bloody.

“Willy Gnonto held a threat during his latest substitute cameo appearance, while Ian Poveda impressed the manager in training.

“It’s almost certain that Crysencio Summerville retains his place in the starting line-up however, thanks to his form and the end product he has been responsible for this season.”

Competition

Leeds have competition for places across their attack, but Summerville is one of those who has pretty much made himself undroppable.

The Dutchman has either scored or assisted – or sometimes both – in six of his past eight appearances for the Whites.

Indeed, he has seven goals and five assists to his name in the Championship this season – only three other players in the division have more direct goal involvements.

Summerville will need a breather now and then, of course, but for now he will continue starting for Daniel Farke’s side.

Farke does have the option of starting Gnonto in place of James on the opposite flank, while Joel Piroe will likely get the nod against the side he left in August, playing just off Georginio Rutter.

That is bad news for the likes of Patrick Bamford, Jaidon Anthony and Poveda, but their chances will no doubt come.

In other Leeds United news, an “unthinkable” development is now likely at Elland Road.
