Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday postponement update after Met Office warning

Leeds United should have no issues with the fog for their Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday after the latest update from the Met Office.

Issued in the early hours of Thursday morning (16 January), an update emerged anticipating fog in the latter parts of this week in the West, much of the Midlands and into Yorkshire.

The fog warning has now cleared and is not expected to be an issue over the weekend, with minor fog anticipated on Sunday morning (BBC Weather, 19 January) which should clear hours before kick-off in the White Rose showdown at Elland Road.

While temperatures have warmed up from the sub-zero ice and snow of early January, mist has affected some games in England and Wales in recent days.

Leeds United can retain top spot with win v Sheffield Wednesday

Leeds United can make the most of an exciting weekend that beckons in the Championship, with their promotion rivals all playing before them.

Burnley and Sunderland, in second and fourth but separated by just two points, meet at Turf Moor on Friday night (17 January) with at least one side dropping points.

On Saturday (18 January), Sheffield United host Norwich City, who have excelled in attack but are without the banned Borja Sainz. The Blades will be hoping to take a similar advantage to that on offer to Leeds.

The Whites host the Owls in what will be a hotly contested Yorkshire derby, with fans on the blue half of Sheffield forced to ignore how overcoming Daniel Farke’s side would do their cross-city rivals a favour.

Should one of the chasing pack leapfrog Leeds before Sunday, Farke’s men know what they have to do to retain top spot ahead of the approaching round of midweek games, when Norwich become their own opponents.

In other Leeds news, Farke confirms a crushing injury blow at the back.
