Leeds United ‘unrest’ claim by Sky Sports pundit as Michael Skubala set for new role

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has suggested there could be “unrest” at Leeds United due to staff members moving roles during the 2022/23 campaign.

Michael Skubala has been promoted to first team coaching role (Phil Hay via Twitter, 21 February) after leading the side in their past three fixtures.

Robinson feels there was a vacancy there for the under-21s chief due to the departures of staff members during the course of the season.

“There was a role there. Jesse Marsch and some of his staff obviously left and Mark Jackson left earlier in the season and he had done a great job progressing younger players in the under-21s,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“There were vacancies there but there has been a lot of unrest this season with people leaving their posts. Obviously, the manager being sacked, and coaches moving around the thing now is stability.

“Skubala has proven he can do a job in the short term, but, Ideally, would you want him in the dugout against Manchester United twice and a massive game against Everton? No, you probably wouldn’t, you would want a manager there to front it, which is where the club haven fallen behind the eight ball.

“If you are going to sack a manager and you want your team to stay in the league, part of the reason are the staff that are there and you don’t want them taking three games of a crucial season and again I think they’ve been slow in the uptake.”

Skubala’s move into the first-team fray will now mean Paco Gallardo will take charge of Leeds’ under-21s side for the remainder of the season.

Javi Gracia will introduce a couple of new faces to his backroom staff, with Zigor Aranalde named as the Whites’ new assistant coach.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared an update on the coaching staff Javi Gracia plans to bring to the club.
