Leeds United: Tyler Adams online degree still funded by MLS club

Tyler Adams has started life at Leeds United very well but his focus is not entirely on football with an online degree on his plate as well.

The 23-year-old is currently two years into a psychology degree which he attends to when he is not training or playing for the Whites after his summer move from RB Leipzig.

That extra work away from football has not yet affected him on the pitch with Jesse Marsch have selected him for every Premier League game so far this season and kept him on for every minute too.

His only rest came in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley, which would be a different kind of education entirely, but he did reveal that his online degree is actually being funded by New York Red Bulls.

“Education is super-important to my mum. She wouldn’t let me sign my first contract unless college was paid for, and New York Red Bulls are still funding it,” he said to The Times. “But at one point I was taking four classes at a time so, as soon as I transferred to Leeds, I was, ‘Woah, I’m taking a break for a while’.”

Motivated

Having played for one of the best teams in the Bundesliga and now a Premier League side, Adams could quite easily take a back seat and just allow the wage packets to keep rolling in but he is not content with that.

He wants to become the best human being he possibly can and Marsch has to make an example out of him for the younger members of the Leeds United squad to follow.

The world of football can be a very closed-off one at times and the culture shock of real life often hits ex-professionals very hard once the routine of training and playing week in, week out.

Leeds should put things in place to allow players to slowly transition back into something of a normal life once their playing days are over rather than Adams and company having to go out of their own way to further themselves.

The American international is proving his maturity at a young age every time he appears representing Leeds and Marsch could well be considering him as a future captain when Liam Cooper leaves.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged about this world-class striker who was doubted to face the Whites on Sunday.
