Leeds United try to strike Matheus Cunha deal, striker set to explore options

Matheus Cunha is set to explore all of his options as Leeds United “actively” look to strike a deal for the Atletico Madrid forward, according to 90min.

It’s believed the 23-year-old is interested in working with Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, however, he is yet to make the final decision on his next club (90min, 15 December).

His representatives have been in talks with a number of Premier League clubs including Leeds, Everton and Aston Villa, with all three looking to seal a deal for the Brazilian.

Cunha has also been offered to Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United and due to the nature of the deal none of the sides have ruled out a move.

Tough task

Cunha would be the ideal striker to come through the door at Elland Road but considering the number of clubs vying for his signature, it does seem unlikely that Jesse Marsch will land the Brazilian. Wolves seems like the most likely destination, which will come as a frustration considering their lowly Premier League position.

If Leeds do miss out on Cunha they cannot rest on their laurels when it comes to their hunt for a new striker. They have an in-form goalscorer in Rodrigo, but they desperately need another forward to challenge the Spaniard. Patrick Bamford looks like a shadow of the player he once was and is well past his best years.

The Whites certainly create enough chances during games, they just need to have another reliable source of goals to ensure their good build-up play results in a positive outcome. If Marsch can land a striker and a left-back, he will fancy his chances of pulling his side away from a potential relegation battle at the end of the season.
