Leeds United try luck on loan deal to sign Nat Phillips as Liverpool sale stance emerges

Leeds United want to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips on loan, but such a request may not work for the Reds, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon noted that the Premier League outfit would prefer a permanent exit for their 26-year-old centre-back this summer.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is certainly a big fan of Phillips, with the boss calling him an “extremely smart” defender, as per the official Liverpool website (April 2021).

“Leeds United want to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips – but a loan request may not work for the Kop,” Nixon wrote on Patreon.

“Phillips can leave Anfield but they would prefer a sale while the Elland Road outfit are trying their luck for a short-term deal.”

Superb option

Leeds should definitely push for a move for Phillips, who is more than capable of leading the club from the back in their fight for immediate promotion back to the top flight.

The centre-back has big-game experience from his time with the Reds, both in the Premier League and the Champions League, coming up against several world-class attackers in the latter.

That experience would be fantastic for Daniel Farke, with the manager needing to build a team of players with such experience in order to bounce back up as soon as possible.

The loan request from the Whites is certainly understandable, with funds tight at the Elland Road club this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

But at the same time, Liverpool will want a fee for the defender, whose time at Anfield is seemingly up after a couple of loan spells away from the club, as well as a lack of minutes on the pitch when available.
