Leeds United: Troy Deeney makes ‘Pivotal’ prediction live on Sky Sports

Troy Deeney has made a fresh Championship title-race prediction after Leeds United salvaged a 2-2 draw with Watford on Friday (29 March).

The Whites would have hoped to take full advantage of Leicester City’s major slip-up after the Foxes fell to a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City, but Daniel Farke had to settle for a single point at Vicarage Road.

Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Emmanuel Dennis were too much for Leeds to handle, netting either side of a Goal of the Season contender from Crysencio Summerville before Mateo Joseph’s late heroics helped save a point.

Speaking via Sky Sports Main Event on Friday (29 March), quoted by Leeds Live, Deeney said: “It’s a pivotal weekend. Obviously, the games come quick and fast this weekend so who can really recover, rest and go again?

“I think Leeds – they’ve got a great squad that can do it again. Ipswich, a little more difficult because they don’t have the squad depth. It’s a really interesting one for us as pundits to watch and try and analyse.”

Can Leeds United pip Leicester City and Ipswich Town to Championship glory?

The Elland Road faithful will be disappointed to come away from Vicarage Road with just a point, but Joseph’s 85th-minute equaliser will have helped finish the match on a high.

Of course, Leeds have continued their unbeaten streak in the Championship, last losing to West Brom in December. Their home form will also be key, heading into the final matches of the campaign without a league loss at Elland Road.

After Leicester unexpectedly lost to the Robins, the Tractor Boys took full advantage, leapfrogging both rivals to the top of the Championship table with just seven matches remaining for Leeds.

With Hull City up next, the Whites will be keen to return to winning ways and, also, keep a clean sheet, having beaten Stoke City, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall in three consecutive matches in 1-0, 2-0 and 2-0 wins.

Injuries certainly had a key impact against Watford, with Ethan Ampadu shifted into the midfield due to Ilia Gruev’s absence, breaking up the formidable defensive relationship with Joe Rodon.

Once Liam Cooper was hooked, and the Wales internationals were reunited, Leeds were far more comfortable on the ball, showing far more dominance in the closing stages of the match.
