Leeds United trial claim clarified as ex West Ham and Norwich City defender Sam Byram invited to train at Thorp Arch

Leeds United have invited ex West Ham defender Sam Byram to train at Thorp Arch ahead of the 2023/24 season, according to a report by LeedsLive.

The publication claims in its report [15 July], that while he has been asked to train, he is not there on a trial.

This means that the Whites do not have any plans on signing the former West Ham and Norwich City player who’s now available on a free transfer.

Good

It seems that Byram’s goodwill at Leeds has seen the club do him a favour and help him keep his fitness as he’s finding a new club.

There were claims of him perhaps being on trial but it’s a good thing that the Whites are not rolling back the years to sign the 29-year-old.

Had they been serious about signing him, it would be an indicator of the club heading in the wrong direction and not really building for the future.

Farke knows that first and foremost, his job is to get Leeds back in the Premier League and for that, he’ll require a certain calibre of player.

Byram is at best a mid-table Championship player and that’s not something Leeds need for the upcoming season.

With Rasmus Kristensen gone, it remains to be seen if Cody Drameh is bumped into being first choice or if Farke has different plans in mind.

In other Leeds United news, the club have been handed a boost to sign a Manchester United player this summer with Erik ten Hag likely to sanction his exit.
